ALPENA COUNTY – Two men in their 20s died in a head-on crash Monday evening, while two others were treated in hospital, according to the Michigan State Police.

At around 7:50 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash on US-23 Hwy between North Partridge Point Road and South Partridge Point Road in Alpena Township.

Police said the initial investigation revealed a 2004 Dodge Ram truck was southbound on US-23 driven by a 21-year-old Harrisville man. There were two passengers in the truck, a 19-year-old Ossineke man and a 21-year-old man from Lincoln.

"A witness stated the truck was driving over the posted speed limit and weaving prior to the crash," police said in a news release.

A 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche was travelling northbound on US-23 driven by a 28-year-old Ossineke man.

"For unknown reasons, the Dodge Ram crossed the centerline and struck the Chevrolet Avalanche head on," police said.

The 19-year-old passenger in the Dodge pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Avalanche was extracted from his vehicle and later died in hospital.

The driver of the Ram and the other passenger were both transported to MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
