SooLeader received the following letter to the editor from Jane Markkanen about the new opportunity to lead girls' troops at the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes.

Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity?

Not long ago, there were Girl Scout troops for every grade in every elementary school. Girls were learning important life skills and going on adventures, doing service projects in our communities and going to camp. The very best part is the entire time they were working with their friends and having fun. We want every girl to have a safe place to feel supported to learn and grow. We’re looking for caring volunteers to help lead Girl Scout troops!

It’s not just the kids that have fun; the leaders do too! Girl Scouts is a great experience for you to make a difference in girls’ lives. To start a troop, we need two caring, non-related adults to say yes and lead our girls to become girls of courage, confidence, and character who will make our communities (and the world) a better place. These girls are our future!

It’s never too late to start a troop. Call me at the number below to discuss opportunities, or go to our council website - gsnwgl.org - to see what we’re all about. You don’t need experience, just a willingness to work with girls and have fun. There are no financial barriers; we offer financial assistance for adults and girls.

Start making memories that last a lifetime. Call a friend and start a Girl Scout troop today. It’s never been easier to be involved. I can’t wait to talk with you!
