Pickford's Alex Jacobson shows off his winning catch at the Last Chance Walleye Derby on Munuscong Bay Saturday evening.

The EUP Ice Fishing Circuit wrapped up Saturday with Rudyard’s Cody Mayer taking the top prize of the Last Chance Walleye Derby on the frozen Munuscong Bay with a weight of 7.61 pounds.

Mayer described a weekend that was common to most of the few hundred in attendance - one of not just fishing, but family.

Mayer’s family came up from down state and his son grabbed second place in the Kids Division.

That division was won overall by Pickford’s Alex Jacobson with a weight of 6.36 pounds.

The other huge factor for the two-day event was the weather, with strong winds hampering disability and even causing one group to require a tow Friday night. But as event promoter Tom Ball pointed out at the award ceremony that's the way of life in the U.P. along with helping out your neighbor.

Tom Michalski, Steve Bustead, Gary Savoie and Casey Blenkhorn rounded out the Top 5 of the Adult Division. In the Kids Division, Jacobson was followed by Trenton Baker, Liam MacDonald, Mason Andrzejak and Eli MacDonald.
