Sleigh ride a Northwoods Christian Camp tradition for decades

'We take you through the beautiful woods on our trails. We can fit about 15 people on the sleigh'

"It was really comfortable!"

David Hurban has always wanted to go on a sleigh ride at Northwoods Christian Camp in Pickford.  While he now lives in Sault Ste Marie, he previously lived in Pickford all his life.

"I knew of it before but never came out so I decided to do something new!" Hurban explained.

He and a friend went on the sleigh ride for the first time this past Sunday evening.  There was about three inches of snow on the ground, the wind was calm, the temperature was 25 degrees, and with clear skies, the sky was filled with stars,

According to Camp Director Jonathon Oliphant, the sleigh rides have been a part of the camp's Christmas events for nearly three decades.

"It's a sleigh ride that is about 25 minutes long.  We take you through the beautiful woods on our trails. We can fit about 15 people on the sleigh. We do have hay bales to sit on",  Oliphant said.

And after the horse-drawn sleigh ride, you can head into the Kresge Lodge to warm up with some hot cocoa and cookies while enjoying the fire in the fireplace.

They call it the 12 Days of Sleigh rides and it continues through December 30. Days and times vary so head to their facebook page for exact dates and times.

There is a fee to ride the sleigh.  Sleigh rides are by reservation only.  Northwoods Christian Camp is 5 minutes south of Pickford on M-129.
