CIU is pleased to announce: In conjunction with the National Weather Service (NWS) of Gaylord, Michigan, CIU will become a TAF (Terminal Aerodrome Forecast) site.

In meteorology and the aviation community, a TAF is a coded weather forecast that provides specific information about wind direction and speed, visibility, restrictions to visibility, cloud amounts, ceiling heights, and if low level wind shear is present.

The TAF forecast area covers 5 nautical miles around the center of the runway complex.

TAF forecasts are valid for a 24 hour period. These forecasts are produced four times a day by NWS Forecasters, and updated as needed 24 hours a day, 7 a week.

Establishing a TAF forecast for CIU provides an additional layer of weather safety for those who utilize our airport.
