Join family and friends for a fun afternoon of games and prizes at the Family Gameshow Fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 5 from Noon to 4 p.m. at Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie.
Proceeds of the event go to support the Soo Locks Children's Museum (SLCM) construction.
The afternoon begins with carnival games and treats just outside of Kewadin’s Grand Ballroom starting at noon. Then the action moves into the Grand Ballroom for the big event which kicks off at 1 p.m.
Kids (8 years and older) and a parent have the chance to come on stage and play games with the chance to win prizes such as an RV, valued at $30,000 or a car, with a value of up to $30,000. Participants can also win a dream vacation worth up to $25,000. There will be many other prizes as, well totalling, over $90,000.
The SLCM received a huge $500,000 grant back in February, but since then, little work has been done to the inside of the building.
SLCM Board President Raquel Fernandez-Earns says the delay in additional work since then is beyond their control.
"We are just trying to find a crew that will get the work done. Unfortunately, with the prices of building materials going up and limited supplies, it's difficult to put a crew together. We have half the funds we need to complete it. We would like to get the 'white box' done which consists of flooring, electrical, plumbing and sprinkler system," she said.
Once a dedicated crew is hired, Fernandez-Earns hopes to have the 'white box' part of the construction completed this winter and have a soft opening in Spring 2025 with some displays finished.
Fernandez-Earns hopes to bring in at least $15,000 from this fundraiser.
