Firefighter injured at Dafter blaze (Update)

On December 4, 2022 at 10:25AM Dafter Volunteer Fire was called for the report of a possible structure fire on 10 mile road just west of Dafter.

The following is the latest information on the weekend Dafter fire:

On December 4, 2022 at 10:25AM Dafter Volunteer Fire was called for the report of a possible structure fire on 10 mile road just west of Dafter.

Fire personnel were on the scene through early evening.

Dafter units responded and arrived on scene.

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Firefighters made an aggressive attack of the fire. Mutual aid was called from Superior Township Fire Department, Baymills Township Fire, Soo Township Fire Department, and Kinross EMS.

Kinross Volunteer Fire Department responded with a rehab tent.

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office victim services unit responded to the scene to assist with rehab.

Chippewa County Road Commission assisted with salting the road and driveway.

One firefighter was injured on scene and is expected to be okay.

One subject was injured prior to arrival. Subject refused EMS care.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
