Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office investigating hit and run

The initial investigation revealed that a bicyclist was struck from behind by a pickup truck

NOTICE - PRESS RELEASE 09/01/2022

The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Hit and Run accident that occurred on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at approx. 9:00 am on Mackinac Trail approx. ¾ of a mile North of Gorman Road in St. Ignace Township. The initial investigation revealed that a bicyclist was struck from behind by a pickup truck traveling N/B on Mackinac Trail. The collision knocked off the passenger side mirror of the pickup truck and caused the bicyclist to be thrown from their bicycle and into the ditch. The bicyclist received serious injuries due to the accident and is being treated at a northern Michigan hospital.

The suspected vehicle is believed to be a 2007 – 2013 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that is missing the passenger side mirror pictured below.
