Hailey Cleveland said yes to a surprise proposal when the Sault's anchor dropped to ring in New Year 2023.
After a year and ten months to be precise, Nicholas Arsenicos of Long Island, New York popped the question last night.
"I knew she was the one when I first met her," he said. "She has been so kind and good to me. She's the perfect person. She is smart, funny, and everything in between. She's the woman I want to marry and love forever."
Friends, family, and perfect strangers surrounded the happy couple with big hugs and congratulations.
"I am so excited that I just have no words," said Cleveland's mother, Lisa. "I love him."
Cleveland's father was tearfully beaming with joy nearby.
Arsenicos proposed with the ring his late father gave to his mother.
It turns out the future Mr. and Mrs. Arsenicos are new to the Sault.
She has recently accepted a position with MyMichigan Medical Center Sault and he currently attends Lake Superior State University in hopes of becoming a school teacher.
They were happy to celebrate their engagement with the several hundred community members who came out to watch the city's anchor drop in a New Year's Eve to remember.
