Sault High track team enjoys another successful meet

Next up for the team is the regional competition in Marquette next week

Just a few days after winning the Cheboygan Invitational, the Sault High Blue Devils Track and Field teams were again victorious, this time in East Jordan. The eighteen teams at the invite were split into two groups, based on school size.

The girls and boys teams not only won the big school pool, but the overall competition as well. The girls finished with a score of 104.5, ahead of Indian River Inland Lakes 99.5, and host East Jordan 92. The boys ended up with 85 points, ahead of Maple City Glen Lake 82, and Charlevoix 72.5. 

In the 100m, Mackenzie Bell finished in ninth place (13.64) and was seventh in the 200m (28.86) while teammate Bella Smith finished ninth (29.43). Abby Walther finished ninth in the 400m run (1:07.51 - PR) and second in the 800m (2:36.37 - PR). Isabella DeWildt was right behind her taking third (2:37.76 - PR) and Ella Marchand came in ninth (2:44.85 - PR). Cassandra Gallagher took fourth in the 1600m run (5:54.88) and third in the 3200m run (11:54.66 - PR). Teammate Elise Proulx finished eighth in the 1600m (6:24.15). In the 100m high hurdles, Annabelle Fazzari came in third (17.48) and Claire Erickson came in fifth (18.58). Erickson took third in the 300m low hurdles (51.83) and Jillian Newhouse was tenth (57.79). 

The girls finished in the top three of each of the relay events. In the 4x100, Tarynn Pratt, Bell, DeWildt and Smith took first (54.27), and Bell, Erickson, Pratt and Smith were runners up in the 4x200 (1:54.50). DeWildt, Ava Mayer, Dayna Szabo and Pratt finished third in the 4x400 (4:33.03) and Gallagher, Walther, DeWildt and Szabo won the 4x800 (10:37.08).

In the field events, Annabelle Fazzari took second in shot put (32’03.50) and Katie Anderson came in seventh (29’02.50). In discus, Anderson was the runner up (92’10.00) and Fazzari was sixth (87’03.00). Helana Bishop was sixth in pole vault (5’6) and Maddie McLean was seventh in long jump (14’00.50).

For the boys’ events, Carter Oshelski was second in the 100m (11.49) and first in the 400m (52.42 - PR). Logan Haskins was fifth in the 800m (2:09.50). Gabe Litzner won the 1600m run (4:32.68 - PR) and Cody Aldridge was runner up (4:39.72 - PR). Litzner also won the 3200m (10:10.03) and Shea Armstrong came in tenth (11:37 - PR).  Owen Rice took ninth in the 300m low hurdles. 

The Sault won the 4x200 relay (1:37.89) thanks to River Perez, Carter Oshelski, Alex Jacek and Donnivan Dykraaf. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Rice, Perez, Haskins and Dykraaf came in eighth place (3:53.63) and the 4x800 team of Caleb Klier, Aldridge, Haskins and Evan Huyck was third (9:03.33).

Evan Arbic was eighth in shot put (39’05.5 - PR) and fourth in discus (110’03.00). Rayce Rizzo placed second in pole vault (11’0) and fifth in long jump (17’07.00). 

The teams are now preparing for regional competition in Marquette next week. Qualifiers in each event in Marquette will compete in the UP Track and Field finals at the end of the season.
