Calvin Joseph Hall, age 90, of Pickford, Michigan, died on December 15, 2022, in hospice care at the Pennington Home. He was born on July 31, 1932, to Eileen Hall.

Cal grew up on Sixteen Mile Road and attended the Green School until 8th grade. He went to work for Harold Taylor at Taylor Lumber Co. and remained there for several years before going to drive truck on road construction in 1954. Cal married the love of his life Roberta Joy Portice on September 12, 1953, at the Pickford Presbyterian Church. They lived north of Pickford until 1957 when they moved to their farm south of Pickford to raise their family. Cal worked for thirty years on road construction and in the winters, he skidded logs with his brother-in-law Cecil Portice. Cal retired to enjoy his family, farm, and horses.

Cal was happiest on the farm finding fun along with the hard work. His favorite thing to do was work his horses: on the farm, in the woods, and competing at fairs or horse pulls. Cal enjoyed reading and watching westerns. He loved every minute he spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and wife.

Cal was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Pickford Presbyterian Church.

Cal is survived by his children, Robert Hall, Randy (Claudia) Hall, & Joyce (Mark) Smith all of Pickford; grandchildren, Marah (Chase) Fierek, Callie (Adam) Fuhrman, Olivia (Dan) Stenback, Connor Smith, and; great-grandchildren, Cy and Hazen Arnold, Callen Fuhrman, and Nora Stenback; siblings, John (Molly) Thompson of Hessel, MI, Karen Thompson of New Jersey, Kenny Thompson of Florida, Bobby Thompson of Cedarville, MI, Donna, Pam and Joyce Thompson of Romeo, MI, Dale Thompson, and Ima of Mt. Pleasant, MI; sisters-in-law, Arlene Portice of Pickford and Florence Thompson of Romeo, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

Cal was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Hall; infant daughter, Corine Hall; sisters, Lois, Gloria, Mary, Eualdine, Dana, and Terry; brothers, Maurice “Pork”, and Merlin; mother and great family friends, Vern Romano and Rich Frank.

A Celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2023.
