Janet Joan (Zwolinski) Skinner, age 94, of Pickford, Michigan, died in her home on August 9, 2022. She was born in Goetzville, Michigan, on August 27, 1927, to Andrew and Mary (Pleva) Zwolinski.

Janet grew up in Goetzville, Michigan, and met Verne Robert Skinner. On June 23, 1945, they married in Lansing, Michigan, while Verne came home on leave from serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II. They lived in Lansing for a few years until they purchased their farm in Pickford. They raised their family there until 1962, when they purchased the Sweeney Garage and changed its name to Skinner’s Garage. She was the bookkeeper for sixty years and retired in 2020.

Janet was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church and the Raber Amvets Auxiliary in Raber, Michigan, and a member of the Pickford Area Historical Museum.

Janet enjoyed picking raspberries, gardening, canning, and watching the Tiger’s baseball games. She liked playing cards, especially solitaire, and making beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren, and always had a puzzle on the table. Most of all she loved her family to the moon and back.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Dick) Beacom, Kathy (Alfred) Libby, Janet (Gary) Rutledge, and Gail (Steve) Andrzejak; and sons, Denny (Carol) Skinner, Mike (Darlene) Skinner, and Jack (Margaret) Skinner.

Her grandchildren, Scott (Cheri) Skinner, Rebecca (Casey) Crimin, Nicole (Gary) Stec, Tina (Jim) Boger, Cheryl Becks, Tim (Kathy) Skinner, Kristin (Phil) Shriner, Brent (Helena) Beacom, Brooke Beacom, Amy (Jason) Kronemeyer, Emily (Doug) Skinner, Michael (Jody) Skinner, Lawney (Shelli) Libby, Jeremy Libby, Michelle (Arlon) Rutledge, Kurt (Kirsten) Rutledge, Eric (Bri) Rutledge, Traci (Nate) Rutledge, Andrew (Katie) White, Meredith (Jeremy) Nabor, Jack Skinner, Marc (Sheena) Andrzejak, and Lindsay (Randy) Johnston.

Her great grandchildren, Adam, Chris, Ben, Kyra, Ethan, Lucas, Jayden, Kaylie, Kara (Matt), Ashley, Amanda, Cody, Callie, Autumn, Austin, Nicole, Claire, Owen, Cedar, Lily, Miles, Alexis (Max), Mikayla, Jordan, Maxwell, Carson, Marrin, Jacob, Evan, Derrick, Natasha, Maddie, Christian (Leslie), Samantha, Akayla (Jackson), Alivia, Aidan, Alek, Allison, Kameron, Eleanor, Jameson, Harrison, Owen, Henrik, Leyton, Mason, Ava, Brynlee, Reed, Reese, Crew.

Her great-great grandchildren, Brayden, Lukas, Aedan, Brinley, Maycee, Carter, Kolton, Willow, Roman, Lyra, Jaxson, and Terra.
Janet is also survived by her sister, Mary Lou (Gilbert) ZenZen; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Zwolinski, and Pat Zwolinski; brother-in-law, William Skinner, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Verne Skinner; son, Gary Skinner; parents Andrew and Mary; brothers, John Zwolinski, Mike Zwolinski, Clarence Zwolinski, Frank Zwolinski, and Everette Zwolinski; sisters, Virginia Blair, Helen Klamerus, Sophie Clegg, Marion Shadnaw, Florence Zwolinski, Julia Walker, and Ann McConkey; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Skinner, and Veda (Harvey) Sodergren.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Galer Funeral Homes, in Pickford, Michigan, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., with the funeral service starting at 1:00 P.M.

The final resting place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, in Bruce Twp, Michigan.
