Sara Joanne (Besteman) Postma, age 81, of Rudyard, Michigan, went to meet her savior, on June 26, 2022, hours after her husband, Philip Postma. She was born in Rudyard, Michigan, on May 12, 1941, to Glenn and Johanna (Kamper) Besteman.

Sara grew up in Rudyard and graduated from Rudyard High School. She continued her education at Calvin College in 1959, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1962. She married the love of her life, Philip Lawrence Postma, on November 23, 1962, in Rudyard. In 1963, Sara began working as a Registered Nurse at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, where she stayed for forty-one years. The last ten years of her career was in post-surgery before she retired in 2004.

Sara was a Calvinette Counselor for many years, a member of the Rudyard Christian Reformed Church, and she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and as a librarian for both the Christian Reformed Church and the New Hope Community Church for over thirty years.

Sara loved cooking, gardening, scrapbooking, camping, canning for the 4-H fairs, collecting antiques, and being the area Creative Memories consultant for the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Sara enjoyed accompanying Phil on many traveling opportunities with their best friends Bud and Margaret Anderson. Sara was passionate about spending her time with her family and grandkids while capturing every moment possible on camera.

Sara is survived by her sons, Lawrence J. (Jacqueline) Postma of Rudyard, and Joel G. (Jennifer) Postma of Saranac, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin Postma, Cassandra Brown, Laurynn Postma, Benjamin Postma, Rachel Postma, Jonathan Postma, Andrew Postma, Morgan Wasilew, Madeline Wasilew, Maximus Wasilew; sisters, Ruth McGuire of Chicago, Illinois, Bonnie (Dave) Tosh of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Margaret (Rich) Winkel of Grand Rapids, and Kathryn (Kim) Cheney of Rudyard; brothers-in-law, Sherman (Angie) Postma of Grand Rapids and Willard (Coralyn) Postma of Zeeland, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Carol (Jim Koetie) Postma-Koetje (John, deceased), Stella Postma (Ferdinand, deceased), and Ruth Postma (Floyd, deceased); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Johanna (Kamper) Besteman; brothers-in-law, Everson McGuire, Ferdinand Postma, Howard (Adele) Postma, John Postma, Floyd Postma, and Paul Postma; and sisters-in-law, Ethel (August) Wagner and Johanna (Floyd) VanSloten.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. at Galer Funeral Homes & Cremation, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford.

Visitation will also be held on July 1, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Christian Reformed Church, 17938 S. Tilson Road in Rudyard followed by the Funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow at North Rudyard Township Cemetery, and a potluck lunch at the Rudyard Christian Reformed Church will follow the burial.
