Arts, crafts, goodies at Annual Give from the Heart auction

'We now have crafts from local artists, which got a lot of attention, plus it's great to promote local people to give them a boost,' says CEO of United Way of the EUP

The 10th annual Give from the Heart online auction wrapped up earlier Tuesday afternoon, with many goodies being auctioned off.

Eagle Radio 95.1 fm in Sault Ste Marie and the United Way of the Eastern U.P. teamed up once again to raise 'sweet' money for the organization. What started out small in the beginning has become much larger, with people donating scrumptious goods.

But this year, something new was introduced.

"In this 10th year, we added arts and crafts to the auction because some people told us they could not eat sugar or sweets but still wanted to be a part of the auction," said United Way of the EUP CEO Raulaniesa Aranda. "We now have crafts from local artists, which got a lot of attention, plus it's great to promote local people to give them a boost."

Aranda said the money raised in previous auctions was close to $1,000. This year the tally is $1,028.

"It's not a huge event, but it is fun, and all the money goes back into community programming," she added.

Tim Ellis, Owner of Eagle Radio 95.1fm, said, "The culture we have here at Eagle Radio is to work with local businesses and local organizations. It's what we thrive on here for. It's great to work with the folks at the United Way on projects like this!"

The online bidding on the United Way of the EUP Facebook page wrapped up at 1 p.m. If you missed the chance to bid today, you have one year to save up some loose change to cash in on some goodies for a great cause.
