CHEBOYGAN - The Sault High varsity boys golf team placed second and the junior varsity team finished first at Monday’s 16-team Cheboygan Invitational.

The Blue Devils finished five strokes behind varsity champion Charlevoix while playing in blustery conditions at the Cheboygan Golf and Country Club. Odin Medrick shot a 77 to tie for third place and lead Sault High. Ryan TenEyck tied for 14th with an 84, and Easton Fitzner tied for 16th with an 87.

Also for Sault high, Nick Wood shot a 91, Carson Kronemeyer and Devin Goetz had 92s.

“We left a lot of shots out there, particularly around the greens,” Sault coach Linda Bouvet said. “You know you have a competitive group when we’re not satisfied with a runner-up finish. Conditions were tough for everyone and we’ll continue to work on dealing with challenging scoring situations.”

Top 10 JV finishers were Blue Devils Cam Gagnon (93), who tied for medalist honors, Brian Li (95), and Tucker Quinn and Finley Johnson (97s). The Sault JV team placed ninth in the overall team standings and was one of six JV squads competing in the tournament.

The Sault High boys and girls teams compete Friday at Hessel.
