Assault investigation near Cadillac leads to arrest, charges

WEXFORD COUNTY, MI. – On Friday, May 12 at approximately 6:30 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post responded to a report of an alleged assault that took place at an address on 12 Road in Cedar Creek Township.

Troopers arrived and saw the suspect, 28-year-old Dakota Joel Finch from Manton, standing in the driveway of the residence.

Finch had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Wexford County and began to run from the scene. Troopers quickly captured Finch and took him into custody. 

The victim alleged Finch attacked and strangled her while they were arguing inside the home. A witness was also interviewed at the scene. The victim did not require medical attention. Finch was lodged in the Wexford County Jail. 

Finch was arraigned on May 15 in the 84th District Court in Wexford County for on one count Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder, one count Resist and Obstructing a Police Officer, and one count Domestic Violence. His bond was set at $20,000. His next scheduled court appearance is on May 30 at 2 p.m.
