Concealed weapon, unregistered handgun lead to arrest in Benzonia

Man accused of operating vehicle on suspended license without insurance, carrying unregistered handgun that he did not have a permit to carry concealed

BENZIE COUNTY, MI.  – On Wednesday, March 22, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on US-31 Highway near Love Road in Benzonia. 

The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and several other charges.

The driver, 44-year-old William Scott Fortine from Benzonia, was also operating the vehicle on a suspended license, without insurance, and he was found to be carrying an unregistered handgun that he did not have a permit to carry concealed. He was arrested and lodged in the Benzie County Jail.

Fortine was arraigned in the 85th District Court in Benzie County on one count Carrying Concealed Weapon, Firearms Purchase without a License, Driving on a Suspended, Revoked or Refused License, and Operating without Security. 

He was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on April 20 at 1:30 p.m.
