ALPENA COUNTY, Mich. - On Sunday, June 4, at approximately 2:04 p.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post was dispatched to a residence on French Road in Alpena Township for a report of an “out of control” man. The trooper spoke with the victim and a witness at the scene. They alleged that 45-year-old Scott Roger Smith from Alpena had an argument with the victim, grabbed her by the throat, and threw her to the ground. Smith left the scene driving a GMC Sierra before the trooper arrived.

Another trooper was responding to the scene when he heard the radio traffic regarding the suspect and pickup truck. The trooper was southbound on French Road when he saw the pickup northbound. As the trooper turned around to initiate a stop, the vehicle turned into a driveway, and the driver fled. The trooper pulled into the residence and spoke with the homeowners. They did not recognize the vehicle and did not know who was driving. An Alpena County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw Smith walking on Guyotte Road and placed him under arrest. The deputy transported Smith to the troopers for an interview. Smith was lodged in the Alpena County Jail.

Smith was arraigned yesterday in the 88th District Court in Alpena County on one count of domestic violence, third offense. He was given a $2,500 10-percent bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on June 22 at 2 p.m.
