6 business students score top 10 in National Leadership Conference

16 Business Professionals of America students compete at National Leadership Conference in California

Sixteen students from Sault Area High School and Career Center competed at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California on April 26-30, 2023.

The students who competed and represented Sault Area Career Center’s BPA Chapter at the National Leadership were Caitlyn Stevens (Basic Office Systems and Procedures), Brian Li (Fundamental Word), Kylie Brown (Fundamental Word), Mia Woolever (Advanced Desktop Publishing), Claire Erickson (Advanced Interview Skills, Global Marketing Team), Mackenzie Bell (Global Marketing Team), Abby Walther (Global Marketing Team), Hannah Maurer (Global Marketing Team), Brooke Bennin (Fundamental Spreadsheets, Advanced Word), Kenedy Hagan (Health Admin Procedures), Hailee O’Connor (Health Admin Procedures), Cody Batho (Database Applications), Aurora Corbiere (Payroll Accounting), Adrianna Natzke (Banking and Finance), Elena Masters (Health Admin Procedures), Jordan Doghmi (Opens).

During the Grand Awards session on April 30, 2023, six students received honors for placing in the top 10 at the National Leadership Conference. Senior Kenedy Hagan placed first in the nation in Medical Terminology. Senior Brooke Bennin placed fourth in Advanced Word. Senior Aurora Corbiere placed third in Payroll Accounting. Senior Caitlyn Stevens placed sixth in Basic Office System and Procedures. Senior Cody Batho placed ninth in Database Applications. Senior Elena Masters placed third in Health Administration Procedures. Senior Brooke Bennin also made it on stage as the Runner Up in Certiport’s Certification Competition in Microsoft Word with a perfect score. Brooke took home a pair of Beats headphones for her efforts in the competition.

The following businesses, organizations, and individuals donated at various levels to help support BPA’s travel expenses to Anaheim. The highest level was the ambassador level ($201 or more), the second level was the statesman level ($101 and $200), the third level was the diplomat level ($51 and $100), and the last level was the executive level ($10 and $50).

The Sault Area Career Center BPA Chapter provides students in grades 10-12 and enrolled in a CTE Business course the opportunity to compete at the regional, state, and national levels. Students participate in many chapter activities including fundraising efforts, service projects, and competitions. Business Professionals of America prepares today’s students to be tomorrow’s business professionals.
