850 Flood into Center for Freshwater this Engineers Day

'We want to help educate as many people as we can about issues facing our Great Lakes and natural Resources,' CFRE Assistant Director of Research Dr. Kevin Kapuscinski said

Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) was packed all day Friday on Engineers Day with an approximate total of 850 residents and tourists, flooding in to learn about fish culture, fisheries management, and Great Lakes conservation efforts.

"We want to help educate as many people as we can about issues facing our Great Lakes and natural Resources," CFRE Assistant Director of Research Dr. Kevin Kapuscinski said. "We had a couple of interactive locations to engage kids. We had our general displays open: sturgeon, Atlantic salmon, and sea lampreys. We also had a display with macroinvertebrates, such as stoneflies and crayfish. We had lake salmon and fresh water muscle displays. There were several more exhibits open than normal."

Ten LSSU student employees assisted staff in presenting and answering questions pertaining to the state's fresh water life and resources.

"We encourage folks to come on in and check things out," Kapuscinski said.

LSSU Center for Freshwater Research and Education is free to the public. It is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Click here to learn more.
