Driver in collision killing Saultite Katie Robinson charged

Harrison was injured in the collision and treated in hospital. Today he was in court to be officially charged with second-degree murder and habitual offender - 4th offence

On June 17, 2021, around 8 p.m., Chippewa County Central Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting that a truck was driving recklessly in the Pickford area heading north on M-129.

Deputies located the truck northbound and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the truck continued speeding away.

Police say the truck's driver then hit the back of a VW Bug that was already on the shoulder of the road in front of Guido's Pizza.

The impact from the truck propelled the car into a power pole.

The driver of the car, 20-year-old Sault Ste. Marie resident, Katie Robinson, was ejected due to the impact.

She died at the scene.

The truck continued northbound crashing into three parked cars and hitting a building.

The driver of the truck was taken to War Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries after the collision.

Today, the driver of that truck was in court to be formally charged in 91st District Court in Sault Ste. Marie.

Tanner Dunbar Harrison was charged with second-degree murder and habitual offender - 4th offence notice.

Bond was denied.

His next court date will be October 12 at 9:15 a.m.
