One person is confirmed dead, and another has yet to be located.
Michigan State Police (MSP) Troopers from the Calumet Post responded to a fatal house fire in Portage Township at approximately 9:16 p.m. on Friday, January 7.
It had been reported that two individuals were trapped inside the home. At least one person is confirmed dead. The other has not been located but is believed to have died.
Assisting MSP on the scene was Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Lake Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Stanton Twp. Fire Department, Hurontown Fire Department, and Chassell Fire Department.
The Houghton County Medical Examiner was also called to the scene.
MSP Eighth District Fire Investigator is investigating the cause of the fire.
