High winds Tuesday night cause damage and power outages

Thousands of people were without power during the height of the storm.

Winds gusts over 50 mp/h were recorded in some areas Tuesday night in the Eastern Upper Peninsula while first responders and Cloverland Electric crews were kept busy throughout the storm.

Some of the highest wind gusts reported across the EUP included:

  • 53 mp/h - DeTour Village
  • 51 mp/h - Rotary Park/Sugar Island Ferry Dock
  • 51 mp/h - Pt. Iroquois Lighthouse
  • 47 mp/h - Dafter
  • 47 mp/h - Rock Cut (Barbeau)
  • 45 mp/h - West Pier Apts. (west end of Soo Locks)
  • 45 mp/h - Cedarville
  • 44 mp/h - Sanderson Field Airport in Sault Ste Marie, Mich.
  • 44 mp/h - Kinross
  • 44 mp/h - Rudyard
  • 44 mp/h - Whitefish Point
