Kinross children broke out through a screen about 5:30 a.m.

The seven-year-old and three-year-old children were located safe a few blocks from home about 9:45 a.m.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a Kincheloe residence on Hope Lane this morning to a report of two missing children.

Deputies say a seven-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother took off through a window from their house sometime after 5:30 this morning.

The parents noticed they were gone around 9 a.m. and called 9-1-1.

Sgt. Justin Fuchey, from the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, was one of several that responded.

"The parents have stated that the older one had gone out once or twice before but never with the two of them together," Fuchey said.

Fuchey is the drone operator/pilot for the Sheriff's Department and had just taken the drone up when the children were found.

Undersheriff Larry Hough said the children were located a couple blocks away on Partridge Drive around 9:45 a.m. by a EUPTA bus driver.

When Hough picked them up in the ATV, the girl gave no reason as to why she and her younger brother decided to break out of the house through a window screen.

"When she was with me, she had nothing really to say to me about why," Hough said.

"Kids will be kids. You can have the safest house in the world, they will find a way to get out if they want to.  Just keep an eye on them. At that age, it's just, you just turn your back for two seconds and they can be down the road," Fuchey added.

Kinross Township Police were the first ones on the scene. Michigan State Police also aided in the search.
