Lake effect snow event through Tuesday

Travel will be hazardous at times due to strong northwest winds creating blowing and drifting snow

Snow squalls will continue through Tuesday making travel difficult.

The first major lake effect snow event of the season is here for the Eastern Upper Peninsula.  

As of 8 a.m., winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for Luce County for an additional accumulation of a foot possible in the heaviest squalls. This warning includes Newberry, McMillan and the Tahquamenon Falls area.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. today for an additional 3 to 5 inches for all of Chippewa County mainly north and east of Pickford, including Sault Ste. Marie, Sugar Island, Rudyard, Kinross, Brimley, Raco, Trout Lake, Eckerman, Hulbert, Paradise and Whitefish Point.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. today for an additional 3 to 5 inches for western Mackinac County including Rexton, Engadine, Naubinway and Epoufette.

NW winds gusting to 35 mph through tonight will make travel difficult at times.
