This week, the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation launched its 2023 “Unified Annual Ask” campaign on behalf of nine worthy Les Cheneaux area non-profit organizations. The campaign is designed to make it easy and convenient for people to contribute. Donors can make just one tax-deductible gift to the foundation and allocate it to the Les Cheneaux cause or causes of their choice.

“We are excited to once again launch this campaign,” said Dave Gough, chair, Les Cheneaux Community Foundation Board of Directors. “It plays a significant role in helping our partner organizations grow their endowment and raise funds for programs that are changing our community for the better.”

The nonprofit organizations include: Great Lakes Boat Building School, Hessel School House, Les Cheneaux Culinary School, Les Cheneaux Arts Council, The Snows Heritage Park, Les Cheneaux Ambulance Auxiliary, Les Cheneaux Education Foundation, Les Cheneaux Watershed Council and the Friends of the Les Cheneaux Community Library.

This year also marks the foundation’s 25th anniversary. Starting with an initial anonymous donation of $100,000 to help build a new community library, the foundation now manages more than $4.8 million in net assets and focuses its support in six areas: education, arts and humanities, health and human services, economic development, recreation and community needs, and environmental stewardship.

The foundation’s role in the community goes beyond fundraising and awarding grants to worthy organizations. It serves as a collaborative partner – with residents, government officials, businesses and community leaders -- in identifying and advocating for the needs of the community. It also serves as a fiduciary agent, collecting and managing funds for larger projects such as the new Cedarville Marina and Clark Township’s new fire boat.

“We are proud of the impact the Foundation has had in Les Cheneaux over the past 25 years,” said Ken Drenth, director, Les Cheneaux Community Foundation, “and of the many permanent endowments that will serve the community now and for generations to come.”
