US Coast Guard Engineers Day 2023 Open House

140 foot Bay Class Icebreaking Tug U.S. Coast Guard Cutter KATMAI BAY (WTGB-101) steals spotlight this Engineers Day

Heavy morning rain did little to prevent members of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from holding a successful Engineers Day 2023 open house this past Friday with hundreds of families pouring in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chief Boatswain Mate Dustin McClelland pointed to a 29-foot response and rescue boat used for maritime search and rescue, recreational boating safety, law enforcement, marine environmental protection, defense operations, and security. Visitors climbed aboard to see what it was all about for themselves.

The search and rescue vessel was among the several on site this Engineers Day.

Second-class Boatswain Mate stood next a small Special Purpose Craft - Ice Rescue (SPC-IRT) boat.

"It can go anywhere," he said. "It can drive down the road, and ride through reeds, mud, and gravel. It pretty much does everything."
