BLIND RIVER, Ont. – A couple of second period goals paced the Blind River Beavers to a 5-1 triumph over the Soo Eagles Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Community Centre.

Scoreless into the second stanza, Blind River broke the stalemate early after Jesse Dupuis sent a pass across over to Vasic just inside the blueline and saw him move in on the left wing where he sizzled a short side shot by Sault Ste. Marie netminder Anthony Zolezzi at 1:57.

The Beavers then bagged another a few shifts later with Jakob Kovacs driving hard to the crease from along the goal line and quickly snapping his chance by Zolezzi.

Not done there, Blind River tacked on two more to go up by four.

Their third came when Evan Fraccaro powered his way along the end boards and moved in front when he jammed in his opportunity.

They then saw Vasic get another one with a man advantage effort at 15:07 as he darted into the Soo zone and smartly picked the bottom left corner from the slot.

In the third, the Eagles clicked on the power play at 8:53 to put an end to the shutout bid of the Beavers’ Gavin Disano when defenceman Coby Fox came in hard on the right side and ripped one in.

Blind River added some insurance with an extra-man effort by Dupuis that was teed up nice by Michael Gallagher from in close.

Tempers then boiled over as time expired with a post-game fracas seeing multiple penalties being incurred by both sides to complete the contest on a sour note.

The win moves the Beavers to 17-8-0-0 on the year while the Eagles fell to 17-8-0-1, one point ahead of the Beavers. The Eagles remain in second place in the league behind first-place Sudbury.
