Gordon Leonard Klier, age 80, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on May 16, 2024, in Marquette, Michigan, two days prior to his 81st birthday. Gordon was born on May 18, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Leonard and Betty (McGill) Klier.

Gordon grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault High School with the Class of 1961.  He joined the United State Coast Guard in January 1963 as an electrician and was honorably discharged in December 1966 and transferred to the Coast Guard Reserves. In January 1967, Gordon moved to Algonac, Michigan, and was employed with Chris Craft Corp., the Boys Club of Metropolitan of Detroit, and Champions Auto Ferry. In 1967, Gordon met his wife Diane Pollauf and the two were married on February 2, 1968. In 1971, Gordon worked as civil servant with Selfridge Air National Guard Base and in 1975 enlisted with the Michigan Air National Guard and was honorably discharged on October 1991 with the rank of Senior Master Sargeant. In 1988, Gordon moved back to Sault Ste. Marie where he transferred to the Kinross Correctional Facility/Chippewa Temporary Facility as an electrician through his retirement in 2005.

Gordon was a member of the Holy Family Church in Barbeau, Michigan, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Post 3, and the Elks Club of Sault Ste. Marie.

Gordon enjoyed woodworking at his home shop making items such as hope chests and toy boxes for his grandchildren.  He also loved entertaining his family and friends at his home bar, watching football and NASCAR racing, and especially watching the military flyovers during the National Anthems.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Diane, of 56 years; daughters, Wendi (Scott) Sicken, of Algonac, and Jodi Klier (Norman Markel), of Marine City, Michigan; son, Wesley (Bridget) Klier, of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Hunter, Amber, and Cody Sicken; Michael, Marcus (Ally), and Destiny Chontos (Frank Menna), and Caleb, Hannah, and Joshua Klier; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Skylar Chontos; brother, Roger Klier; and sister, Laurie (Mike) Hopper and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Betty; stepmother, Elsie Klier; brothers, Philip (Linda) Klier, and Marshall Klier; nephews, Ronald Klier and Sean Pollauf; and niece, Andrea Klier.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Holy Family Church, 4585 E 15 Mile Rd, Barbeau, MI 49710.

Gordon’s final resting place will be at Holy Family Cemetery on M-129 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
