James Levi McCall, age 62, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died at his home on May 6, 2024. He was born on January 13, 1962, in St. Ignace, to James Edwin and Evelyn (Montry) McCall.

James grew up in St. Ignace and attended St. Ignace Area Schools. He worked on Mackinac Island, Michigan, before becoming a cook at the Zodiac Restaurant for more than ten years. He met Deborah Ann Hanson, and they married in September 1984. They raised two daughters, while he worked at the Dockside Restaurant, for a few years, and then at the Hillside House where he was known for his breakfast. He continued cooking for thirteen years, before retiring.

James was a lifelong member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

James loved hunting, fishing, watching YouTube, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hanging out with his family and friends and was the best storyteller.

James is survived by his daughters, Jamie (Travis) Pearson of Alanson, Michigan, and Genifer McCall of St. Ignace; mother of his daughters, Deborah Ann Hanson; grandchildren, James M. (Michaela Titus) McCall, Gavin McCall Emrich, and Kayleigh McCall; sisters, Sharon Closs of St. Ignace, Barbara McCall of Baltimore, Maryland, Joni (Andy) Johnson of St. Ignace, and Diane (Jeff) Cavner of Canby, Oregon; brother, Kenny Brown of Moran, Michigan; many beloved nieces and nephews; many beloved great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James, and Evelyn; sister, Jeanie Edelman; brother-in-law, Donald Closs, and Charles Hanson; and many great friends.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at the VFW, 1110 N. State Street, St. Ignace, Michigan 49781.

Final Resting Place will be at Wequayoc Cemetery in Hessel, Michigan.
