Lewis Patrick Woods, age 71, of DeTour Village, Michigan, died at the Hospice House of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on January 2, 2024. He was born on November 4, 1952, in Sault Ste. Marie to Raymond Patrick and Janice E. (Fountain) Woods.
Lewis grew up in DeTour Village and graduated from DeTour High School with the Class of 1970. After graduating, he joined the United Sates Airforce, serving from 1971 to 1974. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to DeTour Village where he met the love of his life, Betty J. Fisher, and they married on November 26, 1977, in DeTour. They started their family while Lewis began working as a carpenter in the mid 1970’s. After over 20 years, he retired in 2007.
Lewis was a member of the American Legion and AMVETS in DeTour Village.
Lewis loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved building things for his grandchildren. He was an amazing father, husband, and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Jeremy Woods of Mount Pleasant, Michigan; daughter, Danielle Woods of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Brooklynn Woods, Colton Wheeler, and Christian Woods; father, Raymond; mother-in-law, Barbara Fisher; brothers, Wayne (Teri) Woods of DeTour Village and Allen Woods of DeTour Village; sister, Cindy (Tim) McKanic of Petoskey, Michigan; and brothers-in-law, Dan (Denise) Fisher of California, and Ray (Jayne) Fisher of Petoskey.
Lewis was preceded in death by his mother, Janice; father-in-law, Raymond Fisher; and grandparents.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for Memorial weekend, date and time to be announced.
