Ruth Ann (Nayback) Mauris, age 65, of Brimley, Michigan, died in the early morning hours of May 5, 2024, at her home, after a two-year battle with lung cancer. Ruth was born on June 5, 1958, to Rudolph “Rudy” and Geraldine (Thompson) Nayback.

Ruth grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, as the middle of six children, two boys, and three girls. Ruth graduated from Sault High School with the Class of 1976. In 1982, she met the love of her life, Michael “Mike” Mauris, and they married on June 9, 1984. In March of 1987, their family started with the birth of their first daughter, and their second daughter came on New Year’s Eve in 1988.

Ruth truly lived every moment of life to its fullest. Her smile and infectious laughter could fill a room in an instant! Life was nothing short of an adventure for her. From blueberry picking to camping, she had a “spot” for everything. She played league volleyball with friends when she was in her 30’s. Ruth raised her daughters and perfected her work craft within several Food & Beverage establishments in the area for more than twenty years. Retiring in her 60’s. it was her true golden period. It wasn’t until her cancer diagnosis that life itself forced her to slow down.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Michael; daughters, Samantha Mauris, and Julie (Glenn) Philpot; grandchildren, Hayden, Noah, Giovanni, Aldon, and Sawyer; sisters, Linda Sherlund, and Jan Sherman; brothers, Paul (Heather) Nayback, and Rob Nayback; and several special nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy, and Geraldine; sister, Cindy; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

There will be a Visitation on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2755 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783. With a small Memorial Service for close family and friends on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM, with a luncheon following.
