Chippewa County Sheriff's Office hosts 23rd Annual Holiday Food Drive

"There is so much need in our area," said Chippewa County Sheriff Mike Bitnar. "It really is just amazing. The people just give."

The 23rd Annual Chippewa County Sheriff's Department's Holiday Food Drive was held Saturday at Pat's Foods and Walmart in Sault Ste. Marie.

Nearly twenty volunteers from the sheriff's department, and their families, braved the cold, snow and wind to collect food, gifts and money.

All items collected stay local.

Chippewa County Sheriff Mike Bitnar says everything they collect goes to the Salvation Army. They will use the items for their holiday giving to the less fortunate.

Sheriff Bitnar has been a part of this event all 23 years. It amazes him how the community steps up.

"There is so much need in our area," said Bitnar. "It really is just amazing. The people just give. It is wonderful to see. We had people pull up and have us unload a couple hundred dollars worth of food right into our on-site trailer. Many hams and turkeys."

It's never too late to donate for a good cause.
