Police seize methamphetamine during traffic stop near Traverse City

Two arrested, three children turn over to the care of a family member

On Friday, March 8, 2024 at approximately 9:30 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post stopped a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Kingsley man for an equipment violation. The driver had a suspended license. The front seat passenger, a 32- year-old woman from Kingsley, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The driver stated the woman was holding the drugs for him. Drug paraphernalia and marijuana were found throughout the vehicle and in the woman’s belongings. There were three children in the back seat near the drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The driver and passenger were placed under arrest and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail pending arraignment. The children were turned over to a family member.

The investigation continued at the Grand Traverse County Jail and troopers obtained additional information which led them to the man and woman’s camper on Voice Road where they were living with their children. Troopers went to the camper and seized additional drugs and evidence. A bag of methamphetamine weighing approximately four grams was seized from the camper and the camper was found to be in an extremely unsanitary condition.
