Three dead after two-car crash near Roscommon

Husband and wife killed at scene while driver of second vehicle died in hospital

Three people died this morning following a two-vehicle crash on Roscommon Road near East Robinson Lake Road in Higgins Township, according to a Michigan State Police news release.

At about 10:10 a.m. troopers from the Houghton Lake Post responded to the incident. A preliminary investigation indicates a 2015 BMW driven by 36-year-old Ben William Coffin from Prudenville was traveling northbound on Roscommon Road, the release said. Coffin veered into the southbound lane and then continued into the shoulder of the southbound lane for some time.

Coffin re-entered the southbound and hit a 2018 Kia occupied by 73-year-old John Franklin Leline and his wife, 73-year-old Regina Marie Leline, from Roscommon. The Lelines were pronounced dead at the scene, the release added.

Coffin was transported to Grayling Mercy Hospital where he died a short time later, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.
