City winter parking ordinance in effect today

"The biggest thing about this ordinance is making sure the streets are clear to get plow trucks through for snow removal," said City Manager Brian Chapman

The City of Sault Ste. Marie overnight parking bar is now in place as of Thursday, Dec. 1, lasting through April 1, 2023.

Parking on city streets or alleys will not be permitted between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

No parking at any time is allowed on the odd numbered-address side of streets or alleyways, unless the prohibited side is designated for metered parking spaces or permit parking. Not following the ordinance will result in a $25 or $50 parking ticket.

The major high-traffic roads priority. They are plowed over night and throughout the day, as needed. Examples of "first-attention streets" include: I-75 Business Spur, E. Portage Avenue, M-129 Ashmun Street, school property, and hospital property.

"The biggest thing about this ordinance is making sure the streets are clear to get plow trucks through for snow removal," said City Manager Brian Chapman.
