Gerald F. Brehm, age 92, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on April 13, 2024, at McKinley Manor Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on July 17, 1931, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Arthur and Alice (Weston) Brehm.

Gerald grew up in Bay Mills, Michigan, and graduated from Brimley High School. He joined the United States Army during the Korean War and served three years earning the rank of Sergeant. While attending a friend’s wedding, Gerald met Evelyn E. Clark and they married on May 8, 1954, in Highland Park, Michigan. They settled in Detroit and three years later they started their own family, raising four children. Gerald began working for the Detroit Police Department and retired as a Detective Sergeant after twenty-seven years of service. After retirement, Gerald and Evelyn moved to Brimley in 1981 and Gerald began working for the State of Michigan Fraud Department for ten years, where he then truly retired in 1992. Gerald and Evelyn enjoyed being snowbirds and spent seventeen winters in Florida or Alabama.

Gerald was a member of the Brimley VFW Post #9023, the American Legion Post #3, the Brimley Lions Club, and the Brimley First Congregational Church.

Gerald enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching the old TV shows like M*A*S*H, Cheers, and Archie Bunker. He also loved spending time with his family and traveling with Evelyn to Australia, Alaska, and many other beautiful places over the years.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; children, Cindy (Phil) Van Sloten, Dan (Sally) Brehm, Frank Brehm, all of Brimley, Michigan, and Robert (Karen) Brehm of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Veronica (Steve) Krenek, Daniel (Amanda) DuBois, Michael (Bernedette) DuBois, Nicholas (Brooke) Brehm, Kyle (Brooke) Brehm, Tony Mosqueda, and Cole Brehm; sister, Pat Tusai of Florida; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice; siblings, Arthur Brehm, James Brehm, Bertha Kinney, and Janet Sprecker; and brother-in-law, Richard Tusai.

A visitation will be held on April 19, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM at the Brimley First Congregational Church, 6984 M-221, Brimley, Michigan 49715, with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM.

The burial will be at Mission Hill Cemetery, in Bay Mills.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Gerald’s name to Hospice of the EUP, 500 Osborn Blvd., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
