Josephine Marie (Maciag) Povey, age 89, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, entered eternal life at MyMichigan Long Term Care. She was born on December 12, 1934, in Raber, Michigan, to John and Rose (Zobec) Maciag.
Josephine grew up in Raber before moving to Sault Ste. Marie at the age of sixteen. After moving, Josephine started waitressing at local restaurants. While working at a pizzeria she met Glen Povey and they married on November 14, 1964. Once they started their family, Josephine worked hard to take care of her children, grandchildren, and home.
Josephine enjoyed planting flowers in her garden, sitting in the sun, dancing at the casino, and loved hearing the latest gossip from her friends.
Josephine is survived by her children, Steve (Sue) Povey of California, Robert (Valerie) Povey of North Carolina, Ernie (Stacey) Povey of Marquette, Michigan, Michael (April Bouschor) Povey, and Lynette (Dennis Watson) Rogers all of Sault Ste Marie; grandchildren, Shaunna Rogers, Marcus Povey, Nikki (Jimmy) Butler, Robert II (Justine) Povey, Adam (Alyssa) Povey, Elise (Eric) Ferrari, Gavin (Jewel) Povey, Joshua Povey, Jeremy Povey, Jason (Kelly) Povey, Dalton Povey, Kalynn Povey, Kloey Povey, Haeli Povey; Brandon Povey and Scott Garcia, great-grandchildren, Ava, Elliott, Blake, Austyn, Noah, Braiden, Dylan, Eli, Isabella, Sophia, Webster, Tula, Mia, Wren, Emma, Aaron, Oren, Oaklynn, Ollie, Kylie and Lola; siblings, Rosemary O’Polka of Goetzville and Joseph Maciag of Goetzville. Josephine is also survived by her longtime friends Susie, Midge, and Peggy.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; son, David Povey; parents, John and Rose; sisters, Anna Hank, Mildred Kott, Mary Maciag; brothers, Albert (Pearl) Maciag, Peter Maciag, Johnny Maciag, Tony (Lotti) Pokryfke and Mike Maciag; brother-in-law, Lawrence O’Polka; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Maciag.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00AM – 1:30PM at Niigaanagiizhik Ceremonial Building, 11 Ice Circle Dr. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with a Funeral Service following at 1:30PM.
Josephine’s final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie.
