Ora Charles “Chuck” McCready II, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully April 13, 2024, in Sault Ste. Marie, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born to Ora Charles and Gertrude McCready on October 12, 1935.

After graduating from Brimley High School, Chuck joined the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge, he spent time dredging the St. Mary's River. On a visit to see his parents, he met his “everlasting sweetheart,” Mary O'Halloran. They were married on June 23, 1962, and spent over 54 years together.

After spending a few years in Brimley, Chuck and Mary traveled throughout Michigan, finally settling in Sault Ste. Marie to raise their six children. His favorite place at home was his basement woodshop, where many projects were designed and given to family and friends.

Chuck and Mary enjoyed their retirement traveling across the United States. They loved to camp, always finding the time to just sit and enjoy life. Chuck had a great outlook on life, trying to make others around him feel welcome and appreciated. He had a knack for taking the most difficult situations and making those around him comfortable. His wit and humor in those situations will be missed by all.

Chuck is survived by his children, Chuck McCready (the late Beverly McCready) of Sault Ste. Marie, Mary (Kevin) Mervar of L'Anse, Michigan; Michael (Krys) McCready of Alice Springs, Australia; Anne Vieau of Mackinaw City, Michigan; Kathy (Kent) Weber of Thessalon, Ontario, and Sandy Jorgenson (the late Eric Jorgenson) of Lanse; grandchildren, Theresa McCready, Isaiah and Josephine Mervar, Nicholas Vieau, Elizabeth Weber, and Emily and John Jorgenson. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Baron; brother-in- law, Patrick (Nicki) O'Halloran; goddaughter, Mary Disch; and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary; and infant son, William.
